Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Skilled at doing repairs and general home maintenance tasks at the private homes of Medford Seniors. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance to many elderly and disabled residents performing general home maintenance tasks, which will maintain safety in their homes
  • Reports any circumstances in the home of an elderly resident that warrant further investigation related to the health and safety of a resident.
  • All scheduled appointments will be dispatched through the Council on Aging.
  • Window washing, inside and out, within the reach of a 6-foot ladder.
  • Install, replace light bulbs in ceiling fixtures.
  • Installation/removal of screen and storm doors, and windows, according to seasonal needs.
  • Installation/removal of portable A/C units.
  • Curtain hanging, rod replacement, hardware replacement, hanging of lamps within reach of a 6-foot ladder.
  • Small carpentry jobs, such as the replacement of floorboard, stair tread, etc.
  • Replacement of batteries in smoke, carbon, and fire alarms.
  • Semi-skilled plumbing jobs such as faucet washer replacement, replacement of faucet, or garbage disposal.
  • Covers the maintenance duties of the Senior Center in the absence of a Senior Custodian.
  • Installation of Lock Key Boxes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum: 

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of experience in janitorial work, as well as some carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills.
  • Must have a Class D Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge: General knowledge and familiarity with home maintenance needs.
  • Skills: Good customer service and communication skills. Self-starter with good time management skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to safely use common power and hand tools.

 

Physical Requirement

Essential functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying, which includes the ability to lift at least fifty pounds; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands, and legs required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Working in a private home with an expectation of general hazards.

 
DEPARTMENT: Council on Aging.

HOURS OF WORK : Part Time (approx. 7 hours per week).

SALARY: $18/hour, non-union.
