Essential Functions

  • Operates laboratory equipment (e.g., gas chromatographs and liquid chromatographs with mass spectral detectors, microbiology instruments and associated software.
  • Conducts analyses of cannabis and cannabis product samples to test for the presence of restricted pesticides.
  • Uses spectrophotometric or visual techniques to test cannabis and cannabis products for the presence of microbial contamination including various bacteria, molds and yeasts.
  • Prepares and obtains extracts from cannabis and cannabis product samples.
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative tests on various types of cannabis and cannabis products.
  • Tests for the presence of residual solvents in cannabis and cannabis products using headspace sampling techniques.
  • Performs laboratory preparation and analysis of cannabis and hemp plants and products for a variety of analytical processes.
  • Uses laboratory software for sample receipt/tracking/instrumental data collection.
  • Travels to assist with the collection and transporting of samples from growers and laboratories as directed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires completion of four years of college, including 32 semester hours in chemistry from a recognized college or university.
  • This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or other Natural Science.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques organic and inorganic chemistry as applied in analytical work.
  • Prefers working knowledge of biochemistry and physics.
  • Prefers knowledge and experience to assume responsibility for extreme accuracy and precision in analyses and to set up and use fragile laboratory equipment
  • Prefers experience in following written and oral directions, formulas, and charts.
  • Prefers knowledge and experience to make chemical analyses of various products and substances according to standardized procedures.
  • Prefers experience in working in an environment typically found in an analytical laboratory.
  • Prefers working knowledge of statistics.

  • Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to frequently travel statewide.
